Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has ramped up its investigative activities just two weeks before the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, summoning high-profile Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidates Sujit Bose and Rathin Ghosh. Sujit Bose, the candidate from Bidhannagar, has been called for questioning in connection with the ongoing municipal recruitment corruption case.
Similarly, Rathin Ghosh, contesting from Madhyamgram and serving as the outgoing Food Minister, is under scrutiny regarding a land-grabbing case. Both leaders have been ordered to appear at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake this Saturday, marking the third notice for Basu and the second for Ghosh in their respective cases.
The timing of these summons has sparked significant political friction, as both candidates are currently in the midst of their election campaigns. Sujit Bose responded to the agency on Thursday with a strongly worded letter, stating that his prior commitments to election work prevent him from appearing before May.
He explicitly accused the central agency of harassment intended to disrupt his electoral efforts. Rathin Ghosh has also reportedly informed the ED that he will be unable to appear before the elections conclude, as the state moves toward its two-phase polling on April 23 and April 29.
